Service is part of our ongoing commitment to our community.

Oxley College believes that serving our community gives students purpose, which is critical for their wellbeing and helps them to build lasting relationships within our larger community.

Our Service Learning program is based on the work of renowned service learning expert Cathryn Berger Kaye. Her approach puts the students at the centre of the service: they engage with experiences that align with their interests, creating a desire to commit to helping others. Our approach is not to create one-off experiences but to nurture ongoing commitments.

Across their Senior School lives, students will go from working within services in programs organised by the school to connecting and creating their own service commitment.

We have a Year 8 program of service throughout the year, with Bushcare, WIRES, Tangara School and Bowral Uniting Church. The connections forged in Year 8 are built upon in Year 9, where there is an expectation that students will organise their own service. Some will also do this under the banner of the Duke of Edinburgh's Award. We hope to build in our young people a capacity and desire to help the community, which will continue throughout their lives.
