What inspired you to pursue working in a school environment, and what do you find most rewarding about working in education?
After working in a boarding school during my university years, I was confident that a career in education was for me. I enjoy building connections with children and watching them grow and develop into fine humans.
Tell us a bit about your journey- what led you to work at Oxley?
My career started with two years of teaching in the United Kingdom before moving back to Australia and teaching in independent schools for the next twenty years. I was fortunate enough to get a position at Oxley in 2021. I had heard great things about the school, particularly their focus on Visible Learning. Its position as an Independent, P-12, co-educational College was particularly attractive to me.
What do you hope students remember most about their time in your classroom?
I hope that my students leave having fond memories of both the learning opportunities they experienced and the friendships that they made.
Can you please share one of your favourite stories or experiences about your time at Oxley?
A highlight for me would have to be our annual Year 6 Legends and Legacies Showcase. It is a pleasure watching our students research, create and deliver engaging presentations on their chosen inspirational person of note.
When you’re not at school, what are some things you love doing or exploring?
When not at school, I love being outdoors. I enjoy spending time in nature, whether it be working in the garden, walking the streets with my family and dog, exercising, or playing sports. Having said that, I also appreciate time in the kitchen or over the fire pit putting together a Sunday feast.
What’s your favourite thing about the Southern Highlands?
I love living in the Highlands, especially having the extra space and being part of a quiet neighbourhood. I am so fortunate to live in such a beautiful part of the world, away from the business of urban life.
