Can you please share a little bit about yourself and your involvement with Oxley College life?

I joined Oxley College during Term 3 of Year 3 in 2021, right before home-based learning began during the COIVD-19 pandemic, so my first few months were all online. Before joining Oxley, I had been living in Singapore and attended a school with 2500 students. I cried with happiness during my orientation when I saw Oxley’s beautiful campus and rural environment. I knew it was a special school and I felt so lucky to be part of it. Since joining Oxley, I have had so many opportunities to try new things, develop leadership skills and participate in lots of extracurricular activities including Sharp Strings, Veeh Harp Ensemble, Year 6 debating team and netball. I also really enjoyed being part of the Junior School musical production of ‘Matilda’ in Term 3 this year.

What is your favourite subject and why?

There are lots of great subjects, but I particularly enjoy French and Unit of Inquiry (UOI). This year in UOI we learnt about how drones work, and we made a podcast discussing how drones can be used to assist agricultural practices.

Can you tell us about a memorable project or activity you've done this year?

Everyone in Year 6 completed a “Legends and Legacies” showcase this year in UOI, where we researched someone who has left a lasting impact in their chosen field. I chose Sir David Attenborough, a British naturalist, writer, and broadcaster whose significant contributions to conservation have been a source of inspiration to me and millions of people around the world. I wrote to Sir Attenborough to tell him about my project and was so excited when he responded with a handwritten letter. I have framed it and put it in my bedroom!

What do you feel is special about the Oxley environment and community?

It’s a very welcoming community, everyone is so friendly and caring, which makes students feel accepted and valued. I feel a real sense of belonging at Oxley.
